September Update

Dear Student/Parent/Guardian/ Teacher,

Welcome back! We hope you’ve had a lovely summer break and you’re ready to get back to your lessons with M&M! 

Hopefully you’ve had plenty of practice whilst at home or on holiday, but if not don’t fret! We’ll get you quickly back on track.

So what’s new?

Group Guitar Lessons
M&M Academy are now providing group guitar lessons at the Strutts Community Centre in Belper from 4pm – 5pm, every Friday!  

These lessons are one hour long and are open to all ages, beginners to advanced. The group lessons curriculum is structured similarly to our 1:1 curriculum, but with much more focus on group/ensemble work.

If these lessons take off as well as we hope, then we’ll be opening up another class in Somercotes, as well as multiple other classes at the Strutts Centre. 

If you would like to take part in these lessons, just get in touch and we’ll book you in for a free taster! 

Price Changes
This academic year we will be introducing an increase to some of our fees. The last time we had a price increase was at the end of 2017, so this isn’t something we do on a regular basis. Due to the rising costs and inflation, as well as the many more hours of gained experience from our teachers (thus leading to more profesional tuition), we feel it’s now neccesery to introduce an increase. This is coming into effect immediately for new clients, and will come into effect for existing clients from January onwards.  

Our new costs will be as follows: 

Taekwondo – £30 per calendar month (single OR multiple lessons) or £10 per lesson.

Music – 
Group Guitar Lessons – £30 per calendar month or £10 per lesson.
Private Guitar Lessons with Tony – £50 per calendar month for Children or £60 per calendar month for Adults. 
Private Guitar Lessons with our other tutors – £40 per calendar month for Children or £50 per calendar month for Adults.

As always, a £10 discount is available if you take multiple subjects and a further £10 discount is available if multiple family members are taking lessons (discounts available up to a maximum of £20).

Student Music Showcase
Our M&M Academy Showcase is on track for Sunday 10th October! This means our music lessons will have a great deal of focus on your songs for this performance. If you intend to perform, we’d recommend practicing a small amount every single day to fully prepare yourself for the show. 

If you aren’t performing, as a client you are still more than welcome to attend. If you would like to bring a +1 then please let us know in advance. Performing students may bring along a maximum of four other people to watch their performance. 

This is a free event, though any contributions towards event costs and refreshments would be greatly appreciated. We will have a donations pot available on the day.

This event will also be filmed (just the performing students). This isn’t obligatory, but it’ll be a great opportunity to reflect on your performance and compare it with later performances to come. Each performance (with permission) will be uploaded on the Showcase gallery found on our website at www.mandm.academy.

This event will also once again be in collaboration with Heanor School of Music. 

We are very excited to have our first in-person showcase since 2019 and we can’t wait to see our students’ awesome performances!  

Taekwondo British Championships 
Our next BIG Taekwondo championships is upon us! This event will be on Sunday 21st November and will be held at the Coventry Skydome (CV1 3AZ).

Events currently listed are: Sparring, Patterns and 3-Person Tag Teams. We’ll update you in class once we know more.
Prices are: £15 per event and £10 per spectator.

If you wish to enter or officiate, please get in touch. We’ll hand out competition entry forms one month in advance.

We can’t wait to enjoy the community spirit of this event and have a cracking time!

M&M Awards Ceremony (All Students) 
This year we will be introducing our first ever M&M Awards Ceremony!  
This event will be on Sunday 19th December from 5pm to 7pm.  
All of our M&M Academy student, teachers and parents/guardians are invited, though we will need to take numbers as we have a 120 maximum capacity. This will be organised closer to the time. 

During this ceremony we will:  
– Reflect on the year with an awesome showcase reel
– Enjoy a bite to eat with a buffet
– Watch a couple of small performances 
– Give out awards and trophies to our amazing students (including awards like best Taekwondo pattern, most improved musician, most practiced student, Student of the Year and more!)
